In the 90s I was a handwriting therapist. I corrected handwriting problems in both children and adults. Most of my adult clients had suffered a stroke, injury to their writing hand or arm,or similar physical problem. Most of my child clients suffered from incorrect instruction. Generally inconsistent instruction at school and interference from parents. Handwriting problems in children when caught early are incredibly easy to fix, in all but rare cases this problem and correction can be made in 15 minutes!
I changed career directions working in different areas since then. But my interest in handwriting has never left me. Nor has the frustration when I see the same errors still being made. People may say handwriting is dying out, with no real purpose anymore, and computers will take over. Maybe, but over the coming months I’ll explain in detail why this won’t be happening in the next 20 or 30 years.
What I am doing now is putting all my collection of notes from teaching hundreds of people handwriting. Over the coming months I will be revising my notes and redeveloping my instruction sheets.
